What’s up with American Animation?

Here’s one of my biggest pet peeves – American animation. It sucks, for the most part.
I mean really, the Japanese get Final Fantasy with its plethora of hot guys and cool motorcycles and long, thick…swords…
And we in America get what? Shrek 🙁
Don’t get me wrong, I do like Shrek. I have all three movies on DVD. I thought it was quite funny.
But I mean, come on people – these are characters you can draw, characters you make up, characters that can be as hot or not as you like, so why not make them hot? Why not give us some eye candy for crying out loud?
Why be happy with this:
When you can have this?:
And what about the art? Most American animation has only one level of color (for lack of a technical way to describe it) while the Japanese use three. I’m talking about a main color, a shadow and a highlight. The details in the backgrounds on Japanese animation is incredible as well.
Think Family Guy or The Simpson’s versus, well, anything Japanese, Full Metal Alchemist, Death Note and holy cow, Ergo Proxy or Howl’s Moving Castle or Gankutsuou (yep, I’m an AlbertxFranz fan).

Is it just that most American animation is meant to be comical and therefore we just accept crappy cartoons? Many anime are funny as well – how about Fruit’s Basket and what about how many hot guys were in that show?

Bottom line here is, although I do adore The Simpson’s, Family Guy, and all those lovely Pixar movies for their comedic value, I really really really wish the forces that be in America would wake up and give us what the Japanese have gotten all along – truely artistic animation, intriguing storylines (hey, I didn’t even touch on that subject…) and lot and lots of eye candy.

Max and Iago – Love Story

So I’m watching the Max and Iago Love Story shows on YouTube (thanks so much to Evama1977 for making them) and I’m thinking to myself, I’ll be damned if this isn’t just like a typical Yaoi story! Iago is the perfect seme – gorgeous, confident and of course, the bad boy. Max is the perfect Uke – smart, sweet and looking for a loving relationship. Also, they both have these terrible pasts, but Iago’s seems like it was worse (hence turning into the bad boy he is). And of course, they’re both pretty boys with lean bodies and long hair!

Like in your typical Yoai, at first they’re at odds with each other and tell anyone who’ll listen how much they hate the other one. Then of course there is the hot kiss followed by lots of angst and you know the rest;) I’m really not trying to spoil it for anyone.

So my question is, what is it about the bad boy seme and the cute little uke that we (I’m talking about women here, but gay men can speak up, too) love so much about this pair? How is it that it seems so universal? This show was made in Spain, I think – please someone help me here, and Yoai started in Japan, so the concept does seem to cross cultural borders. Are we, as women, putting ourselves in the place of the sweet little uke? Which means, all us Yaoi and M/M Romance loving females can’t get enough of the bad boys? I know I prefer them, LOL. Yep, the longer the hair, the more piercings and tattoos, the better. But I digress…

Just someone answer the question – why do you love this pairing?

You can watch it on YouTube here: Max and Iago – Love Story

My First Real Blog…

Well, here it is and damn, am I tired. I worked on this dang thing all day yesterday and today, but it finally resembles something decent (for lack of a better word). So what is this blog all about, you ask? It’s about men loving men, in all of its forms – movies, books, pictures, whatever, with a focus on those things I listed specifically above (um…the Yaoi, M/M Romance, JRock and Anime).

I plan on posting a few times a week with these sorts of topics:

  • Yaoi and M/M Romance author interviews
  • character interviews (“Yaoi Talk”)
  • book, movie, anime, music reviews
  • my take on bizarre things I find on the web (of which I seem to find quite often 😉 )
  • Updates on my writing and art
  • contests – yes, you too can win an ebook!

That’s all I have to say for now, so on with a hot Hyde picture!

Maybe tomorrrow I’ll have to post about why it is exactly there are so many pictures of Hyde’s tongue, LOL!
